Root Hawaiian Ti - sun or shade - add nutrients to water - more

I'm trying to root some Hawaiian Ti Cuttings.

Several questions:

1 - Should I place the cuttings in full sun, partial sun, or shade to get them started?

2 - I'm trying some in soil and a couple of long stalks laying down half submerged in water... as I read somewhere you get more plants that way... will this work?

3 - When rooting in soil how short can the stem cuttings be (stem, no leaves)... i saw somewhere they could be about an inch long... somewhere else 3 inches long... your suggestions?

4 - When rooting in water only I'm using 'spring water' from the grocery store... will it help to add some nutrients? If so what?

thanks for any help.
