Getting Creeping Fig to Climb Down Back of Wall

I've had success with getting Creeping Fig to climb up the face of a privacy wall, but it appears to stall at the top and just grow thicker and thicker without advancing down the back of the wall. Some of it has attached, but most of the stems just get thicker and longer standing up right on the top of the wall.
I thought that perhaps pruning it would encourage it to attach to the wall? Anyone have any insights or suggestions?
