I have also ruled out Jacobinia (Flamingo plant). I have that plant and although it does have large nodes in the stems, it has purple undersides to the leaves. This new plant's leaves are green on both sides.

Carol, you're on the right track. I know it as justicia "Orange Plume" and, unless you're totally against orange in your garden, you're going to love it!

I first saw this in another yard a couple of years ago. After being unable to find something that looked like it in nearby nurseries I knocked on the homeowners door. She was so very gracious and allowed me to take cuttings. Cuttings proved to be very easy to root and I made more cuttings from my rooted cuttings. I now have a large clump and added another smaller clump on another side of my house.
