Melons are on their way!

My watermelon and cantaloupe are on their way! My cantaloupe has started growing its first female flowers and my watermelon has, too!

The first female flower on the cantaloupe should open up tomorrow or the next day.

One more thing. My cantaloupe's leaves are always curling inward. Are they supposed to do that? Same thing with my watermelon's leaves. They don;t feel weak, though. Maybe just the cultivar? I will probably be ordering some beneficial nematodes soon. Hopefully if there is something wrong, they will fix it!

And you know what? I just found out the flowers are sterile on my cantaloupe! I better sow some seed quick! Oh, well. I hope they will be fine.

I don't grow melons so haven't had to watch for sterile flowers. How do you know?

I was reading about how to pollinate Sierra Gold cantaloupe flowers by hand on Google. There is always going to be a little pollen, but not much. I suppose I can get one female flower pollinated if I take all the pollen from another plant. I will probably be getting some new cantaloupe seeds today at Home Depot, anyways.

Can you post a picture? This is my first time growing watermelon (sugar baby) and I am just curious what the flowers look like. I started my seeds in late February and the plants are about 5 in. long now. How long did it take to flower?

I cut up and removed most of the cantaloupe plants. I have retried with some seeds today. I am planting the same type of cantaloupe I had before, plus Sweet 'n Early hybrid. I hope I get some soon!
