Small unknown tree, guesses welcome!

This is a small tree that may be a large shrub. It was given to me at a plant swap here around 10 years ago. It's been living, barely, under the shadow of a huge Acalypha, where I keep chopping it back to keep the two apart. I moved it to a half-sunny spot about two months ago and cut off everything green and dead. It's obviously come back to life in a big way.

Distinguishing features:
Small yellow flowers, possibly trumpet-shaped, but it hasn't bloomed in two or three years.
Leaves in triplicate, forming a perfect triangle.
New growth is glossy and curled.
Bark is smooth and gray.

I'll post pictures of the flowers, if and when...
