North facing house.

I have a house with a flowerbed that needs bushes/hedge on the north side of the house. It receives full sun from April-Late August or so. Other times of the year with the sun lower in the sky it receives at best early morning sun or late evening sun due to the house. In short, what should I plant there?

Considering location zone 9, I thought azaleas would look great, possibly the encore variety, but worry about how little sun light in the winter and 90+ degree heat in the summer would hurt them. The two houses across the street both have azaleas that receive full sun year round and seem to thrive and are a beautiful hedge. Would azalea's work well if they received mostly non-filtered shade for half the year?

I would like to know if the azaleas would work there and of course am open to other suggestions.
