A worthy and worthwhile sacrifice indeed.

It's probably a Carolina Wren, they are known for nesting up close to the house. We have an old, small watering can hanging on a trellis that they nest in every year. Unfortunately, black snakes often find the nest. But I doubt if there is any way to prevent that from happening, they can climb anything.

Awww... at first I thought it was amouse and I was shouting EVICTION TIME! But when it turned around it does look more like a birdy to me.

Built just backyard outside door, on light fixture. Need to knock on the door before you exit, otherwise mom-bird dive bombs your head - as she exits the nest.

Mdln, how are those blue eggs coming along?

Thought maybe the nest had been abandoned because I hadn't seen the parents but then I started getting one a day. Today is Day #4.

The egg count went from four to two, with no broken shells in the nest. Would a snake take only two eggs and leave two?

Haven't seen the mother for several days since two of the eggs disappeared. What will happen next?

There have been times where we thought the nest had been abandoned also, no sign of the adults. In fact, I was trying to get rid of some bleeding heart vines that had crept back up the trellis amongst the coral honeysuckle because I thought it was abandoned - all the pulling and tugging brought the mother out of the woods, with much chirping and scolding so I had to stop. Now I'm seeing more and more visits back to the nest with food.
