I would suggest taking four or five samples of the soil in the area you are going to plant in and mix them together to get an average. Then take that sample to your local UF Extension Office. They will analyze the soil for free and can advise you on what you need to get the soil ready. Granted with raised beds it doesn't overly matter much, but it helps.

All your additions sound good. This is definitely a learning process. Just add as much organics as you can.

I do suggest that you actually prepare two raised beds now. In the second one you can add a layer of twigs and small branches. Over that add any kitchen scraps, grass clippings, fresh manures, raked leaves, wood chips, etc.

By the time this breaks down and forms good soil you will be ready to plant winter crops.

I'm curious about the 'should never be used' compost thing - where did that come from? I always buy a bunch of bags of composted cow manure to amend my beds & containers. Does that mean I've been doing it wrong for 20 years?

I disagree with "several bags of the same compost should never be used." I've never even heard that before.

Different types SHOULD be used just because different types provide different sources and amounts of micro-nutrients. Basically providing well balanced nutrition to the plants.
