Anyone using Hydretain?

I've just started researching it, and this 2007 post was the first item I found. But when I tried to post my reply directly to it, it didn't appear on the current Florida Forum. So that's why I'm including the link below.

I saw this stuff yesterday for the first time. The price was $21.97. Since my garden is organic, I'm concerned about the effects (if any) on the soil structure and microbial activity. I didn't realize it has been on the market for years since I've never seen it at my Lowe's. Is anyone still using it? What are your opinions? I don't have a lawn, just roses and perennials and such. Oh, and containers. If it's safe, maybe I could go to watering every other day with my micro system.

I was told by our UF Extension Agency expert that it is a waste of money .
He said it really does not work .
I have great respect for this agent.
He has decades of real hands on experience and supports Organic gardening .
It really boils down to personal choice .
For $22 I would expect a lot more and I do not think you will see it .
I actually have a container of Hydretain that was given to me .
When I get around to using it , I''ll let you know the results .

I'm just amazed that it's been around for 15 years, and I've never heard of it. Apparently, the lawn services offer it.
