Are you positive it's not sprouting roots?

Not like any kind of roots that I've seen before... but I've never grown that many potatoes. Most of them look like the reds you get in the store. A few are partially eaten by some subterranean pest. These remind me of the occasional salmon that we'd pull out of the Pacific that had been attacked by worms. The fish we just skinned. I'm not sure what to think about these.

I never saw that before, but I think they are ok. Just peel the skins and cook them.

Scab?

Lou - if not alien planet, then the twilight zone. Everything is backwards and weird down here. I hope I live long enough to figure it out.

Carol - probably is scab. The lesions are still visible after peeling, but another go with the peeler gets rid of them. My soil is mostly neutral, which scab likes. I need to acidify. Back North of Seattle we had the opposite problem. The soil needed frequent application of lime or gypsum to overcome the millennial accumulation of confer duff.

Don't you just love Florida? I know I sure do.

Larry, sorry about your potatoes. Sometimes it is the seed potatoes and I think I read somewhere that manure causes scab? also here in our soil nematodes are the enemy!
My harvested potatoes were excellent, I always get them from the potato farm and never had any problem, they are a little bit expensive but for me they are worth it, I get all the varieties that here they are not even for sale anywhere.

I just harvest my 'taters, too. The first batch was phenomenal - harvested just a couple weeks earlier from my old boxes. My latest harvest - UGH. HORRIBLE> all sorts of damage. Split taters, worm damage and it was in my NEW box. The soil just hasn't had a chance to work out the kinks yet. I was severely disappointed and really worried about the sweet potatoes in the same box. So I went searching, and pulled up the most beautiful sweets i've ever seen. LOL. Go figure. I guess the regular potatoes didn't like the extra water and it stressed them inviting the bugs, and the sweets are just fine. SO glad, I'd rather have sweets!

Any way- point is. A gardens like a box of chocolates. Ya never know what 'yer gonna get. ;-)
