Your plant is ruttya fruticosa. Common names are Rabbit Ears or Hummingbird Shrub. I've read that the flowers "drip nectar". Do you find that to be true?

I don't have it in my garden but spied a small one growing at a Rec Center I frequent. The glossy foliage initially caught my eye; after some weeks, the first flower appeared and enabled an ID.

Thank you, juneroses. I had searched all sorts of terms and descriptions to try to id this shrub. I have never noticed the nectar dripping but I am going to watch for it. I went out this morning and picked a blossom and depending on how you look at it, you can certainly see how it got its common names. . From the front, the blooms look like rabbits ears. Looking at it from the side, they look like hummingbirds. I like little details or stories about the plants I grow as I use them as I show people around my garden.
