On a completely different note: I watched a BBC anchorperson ask a guy from Oklahoma why people live in Tornado Alley and all I could think of is because they think it's better than dealing with hurricanes and earthquakes. It's always something.

I'd much rather deal with hurricanes then either tornadoes or earthquakes! At least with a hurricane you usually have enough warning to board up your house and get out of it's path if it's bad enough!

Yup. I think I read that they got 16 minutes at best in Moore, OK. Barely enough time gather all the kids and pets and head into the cellar or saferoom.

Of course, we get tornadoes here in Florida, too. No earthquakes, thankfully.

Nope, no earthquakes. Instead we have sinkholes. Isolated earthquakes that only hit one house at a time. But I think every state is having issues with those these days.

There's no truly safe place anywhere on this planet, just when you think you've found the perfect safe place, look up... is that a meteor??? When mother nature thinks it's time to thin the herd, just bend over and kiss your butt goodbye. We are like ants to mother nature, some ants will get stepped on, the rest go on with life. Look for the; WHEW! that was close, and stay away from the awchits.

Several years back we did have an earthquake. I think it was like 300 miles off Tampa in the gulf. It was very weak and I don't believe damaged anything, but it happened. My California-raised girlfriend called me up swearing there was an earthquake. She was on the second story of a wooden structure and felt it. Several minutes later it was confirmed by the news!
