Hi Wild,

Take your photos in landscape mode with the bottom of your phone to your right and they won't post sideways.

Oh ok. Are these unclear? I don't really know what to get a pic of, so I was just winging it. Lol

No, the pics are good but the first two were posted sideways.

It would also be good to get a good picture of the base of the plant to show how it is planted. Just take a picture of the trunk where it goes into the ground. Take it far enough back so that folks can see what is going on. Remember... landscape mode... bottom of the phone to your right. :)

Does no one have any idea? I feel like the stuff on the leaves is something.

I assume you know and have heard about Citrus Greening disease. I don't know if that is what is going on with your plant, but has affected a lot of us. See link below.

That is a pretty big tree for just being in the ground for 3 months. The tree is just getting over the shock of being put in the ground. Fruit and leaf drop is pretty common after transplant. It would have been prudent to cut the tree back some and remove the fruit for the first year. At this point you need to provide enough food for the small root system to support all that greenery.

You need to provide plenty of fertilizer and water the first year because the root system has not fully acclimated to your ground. An orchardist told me this spring that he gives his newer trees a higher doses of nitrogen because of our sandy soil. Nutrients like nitrogen get washed out quickly. Trace mineral deficiency is common in Florida, so do periodic foliar spraying.

I doubt that it is greening on such a new tree. Commercially produced citrus trees in this state are required to be treated with a systemic insecticide to prevent psylid infestation. There should have been a tag on the tree when you got it with the treatment information.

Some oil in the winter and a few treatments of copper spray is a good Idea.

Also: how deeply is it planted? Citrus should be planted no more deeply than it was in its pot. No new soil should have been put over the rootball. It's hard to tell from the photo, so I'm not sure, but I don't see either the graft or the trunk flare at the bottom.

Also: no mulch on citrus. None at all. Doesn't look like there is a lot, but remove whatever mulch is there.

I just read something about greening. But I didn't really understand what was going on there. I guess I have reading to do.

It did have a tag for its treatment. And yes, it was a beautiful, big, full tree when I bought it. I'm still losing fruit here and there. I planted it with some fertilizer. It was planted end of April. I planted it only to the level of the root ball. I didn't know about mulch, so I will move it away.
