Mirai was the first variety that I have had success with (4th attempt in the past year and a half). I originally come from the northwest suburbs of Chicago, about an hour from the farm that developed Mirai. My mom will regularly drive the hour in the summer to buy a bag of ears, and to me, they are the best! Definitely a very sweet corn and tender. I got about 11 lbs off of about 20 stalks. Had to spray several times a week for worms though. Another gardener in my community garden who is more experienced at growing corn here in Florida, and has grown several varieties, grew Mirai as well and said it was the best he had tasted. When researching the seed, I discovered that the farm sells seeds direct, and I got mine there because it was by far the cheapest (2.99 + $1.35 shipping).
I planted it a couple of different time over the past season here in St. Pete (10a I think) from Jan - May. However, the only crop with real success was planted in March I think. Part of the reason it does well here might be that it likes warm temps esp. for germination. My most recent planting failed due to the beetles. BT helped keep the worms in check but I hesitate to use stronger stuff and the beetles took over.
