Wow, your so lucky. What I've read about Taccas they are very hard to grow and flower but doesn't look like you had any problems.

Here is a close up of the seeds. Notice that they start out facing up and then the sheath opens and it faces downward. I have not had any luck in getting the seeds to germinate. The long tendrils add to the exotic look of the tacca. This plant really makes me happy. Linda Leaf

Hi I had a green form for several years that pulled a trick on me it went dormant for approx. 3 months . Then regrew and never did it again. My white went permanently dormant lol. . If it dies down don't be too quick to dispose of it. You can tell by the roots . i had some seeds germinate that were just allowed to fall onto the soil. Those that I tried to intentionaly germinate didn't lol Found them VERY difficult to raise from seedling stage. Note that you're growing in a pot??? What media are you using?? gary

I have my black one in the ground in a protected corner by the house. It' still alive and has little ones growing from seed, but I hardly ever see the blooms. It's not a spot I look at often. I was told to take the bloom when it's finished an wrap it around the the plant to keep the seed near the base of the mother plant.

Is that the one they call a bat plant?

Lori, I checked the plant tag and I got this Tacca from Pine Island Tropicals in Bokeelia. I think it was at a big Tropiflora Spring Sale a few years ago. I love all sorts of tropical plants and always find something new and different at the various plant sales. Linda Leaf

I saw a White Bat Flower in bloom at Leu Gardens and it was just fabulous. So this gave me a bit of confidence to try it here in Seminole County. Yes, I'm a sucker, but a tight wad sucker. Today, my baby Black Bat Flower ($5) arrived from Wellspring. It is a happy healthy baby and hopefully it will grow a lot this summer. http://www.wellspringgardens.org/servlet/the-246/Bat-Plant--dsh--Black /Detail I found this Fact Sheet from Burke's Backyard that is chalk full of information. ~dianne
