St Augustine grass pest?

I've been noticing little patches of grass covered in some kind of grayish scale or aphid or egg looking things. Each individual object is very small. The patches are several inches across and there are quite a few of them. It almost makes the grass look like it is covered in ashes. What are these?

Might it be a slime mold? I've seen similar on St. Augustine around here...

I never get this lucky when weird things appear in my lawn, but this article says "do nothing"! That has to make your day! :)

Good news indeed. I actually enjoy encountering all the various types of fungi in my yard/garden (other than powdery mildew, that is) - so fascinating & cool!
