Report on nursery in Punta Gorda

If you'll remember I mentioned a particular garden nursery in Punta Gorda and was told it was a no-no. So without mentioning any names I went out there to buy my dwarf mango. The nursery worker recommended Carrie and pointed me to a tree that had a straight graft which she felt was very important. They had a lot of different plants out there and I wish I had spent more time on their website to see if there was anything else I wanted. The price was reasonable and I didn't have to pay shipping.

It was a loooonnnnngg way out in the boonies. I didn't even think they had electric out there but they did. The lovebugs, however, were great company. I would go there again, plenty of interesting plants, good prices, knowledgeable people. It hasn't rained in a while so I don't know what the conditions will be when it does.

Barb, congrats on your new Mango tree! I bought 5 dwarf varieties from the same nursery, and all are thriving.

Mike, the nursery is t*p tropicals, insert an "o" where the * is. I've purchased many plants from them online and in person at plant sales, and have always been pleased.

They are a no-no, because the gods of GardenWeb feel that they marketed too aggressively here, and so they are banned. The mention of them comes up on content scanners and mesages get removed.

But we as posters would LOVE to discuss them. So, sometimes we bend our way around it.

Personally, I have been happy with my interactions with them, (Though the gent is a character), and have loved the rare and interesting plants they offer. And their site is informative and quite seductive. One of my very favorite places to shop plant porn.

I drove past their new place on my way back from Tropiflora, this year, and wanted badly to stop. Unfortunately, I didn't have the time.

I'm right next to you in CC and I didn't think this place was Punta Gorda either-I thought it was the end of the earth and that I fall off. It was waaaaaay out CR 74 past rt 31 and a few miles down a dirt road. It wasn't fancy for sure, they had a Port-potti. On my way home I was going to swing into ECHO but I was running late for a MG meeting.

They are in the proccess of moving to Sarasota.

And Echo is another break the bank sort of place.

Which one is moving to Sarasota? Huh? Huh? I'm hyperventilating here... a new nursery in Sarasota??

I've only been to Echo once and never to the other one. I was planning on going to the one in the boonies sometime when I have the time but Sarasota is a lot closer.
