What's This Plant?

My neighbor asked me to help him ID this plant. I wasn't able to help. The leaves look almost identical to papaya but much, much smaller. Also, this plant puts out these flower heads which then turn to a small green "pod". The pod gets no larger than a small pea. Do any of you kind souls know what this is?

Hey everyone Thanks for helping me ID this plant. With that name and a little follow-up research you all are correct. Now I need to ask my neighbor for a cutting or two.

Yes, it is edible, but you must boil it for some time to rid the toxins, so do a search for the correct way to do it. Some people, myself included, are allergic to the leaves and break out in a rash like poison ivy, so be aware of that as well.

Katkin, do you suppose it's an allergy or just the micro-spines on the leaves (which go away when it's cooked)?

Writers,I really don't know what caused the rash and I have since gotten rid of the plant. Bow tie vine does the same thing to me, so that is another plant I got rid of.:o(

propagates REALLY EASY! sap doesn't bother me, but have had people i've gave cuttings to, say they broke out in a rash. oleanders and pencil cactus do the same to certain people.
