Mine are in a somewhat controlled environment as well, they're inside the lanai against the western wall. Sometimes the rain comes hard enough from the west to blow through the screen and onto the pots, but usually it doesn't. It's just the ambient humidity out there that make pots stay moist far longer than they used to. I have terracotta herb pots that are away from that wall so I can better control their moisture levels and even those are taking longer to dry out.

Glancing up at my remote thermometer, it is currently reading 79% humidity in my lanai.

I had the same problem with my confederate rose cuttings, I started some more, but used more perlite, did not use plastic for increased humidity and stuck them under a banana tree. So far so good. More shade, less moisture....??? The heat is taking a toll on my established plants, it must be very stressful for a cutting.

Might be too low, that low it's easy for the rain to keep the soil too moist, just a thought...my benches are much higher under a 2' soffit, rare for the rains to get to them unless blowing sideways from the east.

I just stick my cuttings right into a pot of moist soil, and set in the shade until it's rooted, then it can move to the sun. Has been working perfectly this time of year

I am currently experimenting with cuttings in one of my large water containers. It is almost full of soil and clay kitty litter (so kinda like a muck) and the rest is water. It is currently full of /bog and pond plants and in full sun.

Some pink jasmine (jasminum polyanthum) vines wandered into it and rooted themselves all over the place. I pulled them out and cut them apart and put them into pots where they are doing well.
So that gave me the idea to take some cuttings from some other vines around the yard and put them in there to see if they would root. They look great so far....
