Emperor curcuma ginger

Of all the curcuma gingers that I have growing in my garden the Emperor (Curcuma petiolata) has to be my favorite simply because the variegated leave are so pretty! It gets about 36" tall, will take quite a bit of neglect, and will multiply nicely without getting out of control. The leaves kind of remind me of large hostas.

And here's what the bloom looks like.

How pretty, Karalynn. I agree, it does look like a large hosta. Thanks for posting the pictures and making us aware of this plants' attractive foliage. - June

Very pretty. Does it get any visits by butterflies or hummingbirds? Have you noticed any fragrance?

Love it! I purchased something similar at Lowe's recently.

Tom, it doesn't have a fragrance as far as I can tell and I haven't noticed any butterflies or hummingbirds around it. Most of the butterflies and huumingbirds that visit my yard stay in the front garden where the majority of the flowering plants are growing.

Carpar, I have one similar to that one as well. For a comparison in size the leaves on the emperors are about 3 times as wide as the ones on my Siam Tulip curcumas which is what I believe the one in your photo is called. They're also at least twice the height. On the other hand the blooms on the siam are much showier then the emperors!
