Refried?!

(I know, I know. I'm sorry. But we are looking at temps 95, 96, 97, 97, 96 for the next few days and that is all I can think about. It's hard to believe anything will grow!)

The yard-long beans are prolific in hot-humid weather, also the Florida speckled butter bean (a Lima bean) will also produce very well. Cow peas will also withstand our hot-humid weather in summer.
The problem with most other bean varieties even though they will flower the high humidity during our summer rainy season causes the pollen to clump together and not pollinate the flowers.

Unfortunately, from my research, the only beans we can grow in the in the summer are the infamous southern type peas and beans, like Field, Black-Eyed and... well... there was another but I don't recall right now. Even though I grew up in the South with these, I never developed a taste for them. Blech... salty mush.

I have really good luck with the red long asparagus beans such as Red Orr or Chinese Red Noodle varieties. They don't seem to mind the heat or humidity at all.

Oh darn, I was hoping that there would be a suggestion for a good bush bean that someone would suggest. So when will it be cooled down enough to grow some good green beans?

For Zone 10, start your seeds in September

Lot of folks like the yardlongs, especially Red Noodle, I'm not wild about them but they do well in our heat and humidity. I prefer the green field peas like Zipper Cream, but it is just too hot and humid in Zone 10 this time of year to get excited about spending anytime in a veggie garden, I'd rather be in the pool :-) :-(

I am in 9a and it has been in the 90's and raining half the time during the last few mos- so very humid lately. The one bush bean (I have green, purple, and yellow was plants) that is really producing right now is the yellow wax bush bean. I really like that one it is tender and sweet.

I agree about the pool...my garden is a weedy mess LOL!

have you tried rattlesnake beans? it's still a bit early but they are quite heat tolerant and set fruit even in high humidity. here, in zone 9a, itd be a bit early to plant them. but there, it might be worth a try. i've always enjoyed their flavor.
