I grow my tomatoes in a raised bed. The bed is 4' x 10'. The 10' runs east and west. Because the tomatoes are tall I make a row along the north line to allow sun on the whole bed. I like my stake system. I use cedar 1 x 2's x 8'. Cedar lasts long against rot. The bed is 18" high and the 8' stakes are driven in behind each plant. All stakes are drilled a 1/4" hole every 6 or 8". All have a hole about 12" from the top. There is 1 1x2 horizontal. It has holes corresponding to the top hole on the vertical stakes. I use 12 or 14 gauge scrap wire to install the horizontal piece. All the holes are used to tie on the tomato plants, I use fine 24+- gauge wire. I hope that helps.
