Restoring shell driveway?

I know this forum is about getting things to grow, but I've realized half of gardening is getting some things to stop growing! I bought a house a few years ago that has a long shell driveway leading to a guesthouse on the back of the property. It's completely choked with weeds and grass now, some of it looks healthier that parts of the lawn. I'm tired of having to mow it. What's the best way to get rid of the weeds and restore the shells? I've tried raking out all the weeds in a section, it looked good for about a week, till all the weed seeds I mixed in sprouted. It now looks like I've been fertilizing that area. I know I could spray it with roundup, but it's a couple hundred feet long, and I'd still have to pull out the dead weeds. Topping it off with more shell is out of the question, as it is already level with the guest house and causing drainage issues. I don't know if there's a simple solution to this, but I figured you people would know if there is!
