Too hot for brugmansia blooms

| I've been researching why my brugmansia is bloomless. I've been told it might be too hot in my area for blooms. Anyone here in the Stuart area have blooms on their brugmansia (angel trumpet).
I have a feeling the culprit is NOT the heat, but something else. It has formed Ys...it gets lots of water/sun...it is over 6 ft tall...it has no bugs and is not stressed.

Mine blooms frequently and I'm farther south than you. Try feeding it with a solution of Miracle Grow and Epsom salts once a month. I've been too lazy to do that lately because of the heat, but it did make a difference in my Brug and Bottle Brush when I used it.

I'm in 9b, and mine don't bloom well in the summer either. I tend not to "push" them with too much fertilizer, though, and let them shine in the spring and fall.

have bruggies and they've been blooming on and off all summer......just dragged one big ole pot on the patio this afternoon in hopes of sparing broken limbs from Fay....it's loaded with blooms...the fragrance is to die for.....! I agree...feed feed feed....I actually fertilize the pots once a week...they're piggies.

You have a lush plant and the picture shows that your grass is too close to the base of the plant causing it to get too much lawn fertilizer. I would make the mulched base much larger and then use a bloom booster on it. Trust me, it's not blooming because it is getting too much nitrogen. This plant loves the heat.

I agree with happy_fl_gardener, too much nitro perhaps. Your plant is very dark green. Bloom booster / bloom buster fert may resolve this.

I agree happy FL gardener, Mine are ready to bloom again (every few weeks)and I live in St Pete. I put a high potash Fert. [muriate of potash 0 0 60] every month and 666 twice, spring and late summer. Have some large Sanseveria around the base. They are close to 8 Ft tall now and the wind is the only thing that might cause a problem.

Just don't feed it bloom fertilizer, or anything with a high middle number. It will bloom, but all the leaves will fall off.

My 5ft potted "Candida" won't bloom either. Some say feed with Miracle Grow, others say don't feed with a high "middle" number (which is Miracle Grow.) Which is it?? My plant was bought in August, it looks happy on my patio, filtered sun, plenty of water, no wind, and it has grown over a foot since I got it. Huge lushious leaves. Is it me? What am I doing wrong? |

Sorry - the plant was bought in April of 2009, already almost 4 ft tall.
