I have two avocado trees grown from seed. My father in law brought us the fruit from his tree in Fort Meyers area. The fruit was large, maybe six inches long and four inches wide and was green. The seed was about two inches across. The flesh had a good flavor and did not brown like Haas when exposed to air.

We live in Jacksonville. We planted two and have grown them in pots since. A couple of weeks ago, both trees developed brown spots on the leaves. Otherwise the plants are healthy. There is a chance they got too dry during a dry week.

Three questions:
What caused the brown spots?
Should I do something about the spots?

Any idea what variety of avocado this is and will it survive the winter outside this far north?
