Pine tree surprise

This morning when my Dad was walking across their back yard he noticed that something didn't look right over by the fence. Sometime during the night one of the upper branches had broken off near the top of one of their mature pine trees and crashed to the ground. The branch managed to hit the ground broken end down and looked like it was grwoing there. We don't know why it fell as the weather was calm last night.
