i have a "chalice vine," actually the first pic i ever posted on gw. has never bloomed since i got it, have tried everything, except location. looked up portlandia, love to have a cutting....trade ya for some non blooming chalice vine!

Now my chalice vine bloomed very well, but died off in the cold winter we had. It was in full sun, is yours?

I think my portlandia will make a lovely tree if it ever blooms.

Had always figured Portlandia to be very cold sensitive.?? Certainly don't see many around and they seem like they would be a beautiful tree.
Wish i could help with the non flowering problem. I have that problem with several types of orchids . Even more friustrating when they grow like weeds lol

no full sun here, but lots of filtered sun through the big oaks. everything around it is blooming and it is growing like crazy, has to be over ten foot, trellised it up on 8 foot wood stakes. i cover the bottom five foot or so in the winter.

I covered the portlandia tree in the cold winters we had, but it never even lost a leaf, where as plants around it died or died back. And it is in full sun. I may try some bloom blaster fertilizer and see what happens. But spring is a better time for that I think.

On a happier note my lance pod tree is full of buds ready to open any day now. :o)
