You didn't mention the size of your starfruit tree. There is a possibility that a 30 gallon pot is too large of a jump from your former container. But, what matters most right now is that the root system has been disturbed at a time when the tree wants to make fruit. When you put the tree in a larger container, the tree will want to spend much of its energy making a larger root system, not making fruit.

Thinning fruit from a starfruit tree is not usually necessary. We have been having a lot of heavy winds lately and that will surely cause fruit drop because the fruits are not well attached to the branches. Fruit drop is not common because a tree is young.

Without a photo of the tree, I have to say that you have 2 possible causes, assuming that the tree isn't staying too wet - transplanting at the wrong time (especially since winter is so close) and high winds. If you move the tree to a sunny, wind protected area that's one factor you can eliminate.

Sorry to hear about your fruit drop. I know it's hard to watch.

Thanks Christine. It isn't a very big tree, each branch is maybe 30" long. It was in a 5 gallon container and was slightly root bound (but not badly so) so I did disturb and loosen the roots some.

It probably should have gone to a 15 gallon pot, but I didn't have any so I went right for 30. I really haven't ever seemed to figure out why too big of a pot is a bad thing, other than it taking more water for the same amount of tree.

I moved it to a sunny, wind protected area Because I know they don't like wind.

It seems to be doing a little better now, actually.
