Liatris spicata (Blazing Star)? I wish they'd pop up in my yard.

I actually bought one of those at a native plant sale several years ago and planted near my pond where it has flourished and spread. I've found that when planted near a good water source they can grow closer to 5 feet in height. I actually have to stake mine each year in order to keep the flower stalks from falling into the pond.

Yes that is it. Prairie version the best I can tell. Thats a treat to find out.

Kara, you know you're right about the size too. I forgot how much this thing was leaning, if I stood it up on stakes it would probably be around 5 foot. Will have to watch it for seeds. Have two of them.
