| repotting my geranium today (it's been in the same pot for several years) i found these weird, rubbery egg-shaped things. at first i thought they might be water retention crystals, then some animal egg, then i noticed the roots. they smell kinda like a mushroom... anyone? what are these?

Looks like a funky fugi to me. I was emptying out a samll potted plant and at the bottom was a toad! |

| It's exactly that....a 'fungus'. I had HORRIBLE problems with that exact type this year. When it opens, it literally smells like feces (ie: dog poo). It reeks. The fragrance attracks bugs that enjoy that smell which is how it pollinates...and slugs seem to like it too! Weird! I can't think of the actual name of it, but most people call it the 'dog poop' fungus. I did find that pouring white vinegar on it helps to take the stench down a notch. The key to controlling it is to remove those 'egg-like' fungus before they open and bloom. |

| Thats a stinkhorn 'egg'. Get rid of that and hope you don't have an outbreak. http://www.mushroomexpert.com/phallaceae.html |

| That's it! Yeah, I had an awful outbreak this year. Nothing like kneeling down to weed and get a whiff of that fungus!! 'Stinkhorn' is a much nicer name than what I was using to refer to it....LOL... |

| heh, I actually like stinkhorns... maybe it's my innate immaturity but they just crack me up when I see them! I know, I know, they stink but that is kind of funny too! :) |
