Wasps and tip on caution...

I'm still battling wasps nests in my yard....I cannot believe it! It's been really, really bad this year for wasps. I've disposed of 4 nests this year in my yard. Last year - zero.

As a note of caution, be VERY careful when you move any yard art and/or bird houses. Yesterday, I decided to move a bird house and thought I'd clean it out first.

The darn door was stuck...so, I'm smacking it around to get it loose. (eye roll because I'm an idiot...)...

It finally opened on it's own - and revealed a bird house sized wasp nest inside....it's an absolute miracle that they didn't attack me. They didn't even notice me, in fact.

Yeah, I'm allergic to wasps/bees. It would not have been a good thing!

Is there anyway to keep them out of a bird house?

I have gotten rid of wasp nest,in the last few days, out of
holes in rocks in the garden. From under leaves of one of my sun flower trees. From under swings, that I have for my grandson. They have been bad. Caution specially where the children are concern.
In the past I've had some in birdhouses.
They build their nest so quick, any place that gives them
shelter.
Saintpfla,I'm glad you are alright.

Wasps are determined, to be sure. I hosed a nest from my lemon grass only to have the occupants move next door to the avocado tree - within 24 hours and not three feet away.
The lemon grass has become huge and needs relocating - anyone interested in rooted cuttings? cora

It is awful this year. I have them nesting in the bird FEEDER on the inside of the roof. Can't spray poison there!. Yesterday I grabbed a spent blossom on a dead heading spree only their were about four of them that I dis-homed and got angry. Low lying branches are another fave and windchimes or other decor.I think they are doing a number on my caterpillers also.

Is there a way to deter them? I don't think there is, but...thought maybe someone had ideas. I was thinking about hanging the 'dead wasp nest' as I've heard they won't build near another nest. Shall see....

They are just awful this year. I agree....they are doing a number on my catepillars as well. I have had hardly any Gulf Frits even though I have two Purple Passion Vines!

Do the glass wasp catchers work at all? I've seen them in the Home stores and wondered if they were more for decoration.

So, what is a safe way to 'check' a bird house for wasps? I have another one...kinda scared to get near it. This one, the roof has to be unscrewed.

I didn't realize I'd be providing wasp-condos...
