Thanks, Zackey. I have to thank my digital SLR camera and taking lots of photos to get a few that are decent. Not as good as I'd like--I should practice more :)

You have some real nice pictures of the caterpillars.
I found out that the ones that are in your first picture
are good to stay away from. They bite or sting and
it hurts bad. They were on my hibiscus and it really
hurt.

The caterpillar on top is that of a monarch butterfly. They don't sting; I move them all the time from a plant that they have almost totally consumed to better plants.

I believe you are thinking of the what we call the Oleander wasp caterpillar. The proper name for the adult is, I believe, the polka-dot wasp moth. These insects eat oleanders. In fact they will eat an entire plant or group of plants at times.

There is another cat that looks similar to the monarch and feeds on the hibiscus that stings, but of course I can't remember the name of it. But I have been stung by it too.

That's good info to have, glad I read this, though unless they eat H. mutabilis or syriacus, probably won't see any here. Really enjoyed the pics!
