The link might help some one ID it better for you. Could you tell us what plant it's on?

Here is a link that might be useful: what is this

RE: What is this

Looks like a crushed spider to me.

RE: What is this

It is bigger today then it was yesterday. I guess I will just cut off the leaf. I wish I could take a better photo of it. It almost looks like veins in the center part and I could swear i saw it "pulsing" It does kind of like a spider, but it more looks like a wierd plant growing on the leaf.

RE: What is this

You should cut it off, stick it in a jar with holes in the top and see what it does...weird.

RE: What is this

That was a good idea. I cut off the leaf today. Whatever it is, it is definitely alive. It is hard to tell from a photo, but the center area on top of it is like some kind of gel. It looks like hair gel. And like a fool I touched it when i was putting it in the jar and it made some kind of screechy noise and made my finger feel like i put it on a hot stove, but it did not leave a mark. I might take it to my county extension office too. I am going to try to borrow my neighbors really nice camera to take a really close up photo. It is unlike anything I have ever seem. There are definite vein like things on it and every now and again it "pulses", but i need a really nice camera so it can be seen.

RE: What is this

just an update. I have it in my garage and it is about the same as it was outside. I am going to take it to the Ext. office next week to see if they can tell me. My neighbor who knows a lot, said he has never seen this before. I am kind of excited to see what it is.
It might be some sort of wierd spider I guess, as there is a pod like thing coming out of it, but the "gel" stuff is so thick I can't tell. My guess is that the pod thing might actually be the body of the spider or whatever it is. It has to be some sort of bug I guess, but parts of it do look like a plant. Who knows.

Re:RE: What is this

I did a google search for your weird plant/insect and found this...too funny, so I thought I would share.
Carrot?
Carrot?

RE: What is this

I would be extremely careful. It looks disturbingly like the creature from the "Alien" movie.

RE: What is this

A male carrot apparently :-)

 o
RE: What is this

Well, anything yet? Did it "hatch"?

 o
RE: What is this

It might be a spider that has been overtaken (the poor!) by a slimy (gel-ly) fungus? Or is infested with some disease.

By and large, I'm on the side of the spiders, but life is tough out there!
