Is Brazilian Red Cloak the same plant as Justicia, Flamingo Flower, Jacobinia?

Thanks!
Carol

Carol, they are two very different plants. The mentioned justicia (there are many types) is 1-2 feet tall and has a pink 'flower' that looks like a plume or fountain. The brazilian red cloak is a large bush (can reach 8-10 feet eventually), and has a series of large, red bracts with small, white flowers. It has a very large, light green leaf, much larger than the justicia. They are both very tropical and are borderline in my climate. They are both beautiful. I imagine the justicia can be used as an annual in your area, but the cloak takes more than a year of maturity, in my experience, for it to bloom, and wants to be a large bush.

Anna, thanks for the confirmation. I didn't think so either, but the eBay listing below seemed to indicate that it might be. The poster refers to it as "Red justicia". Justicia is sometimes referred to as "Brazilian Plume" but still not the same as Brazilian Red Cloak.

Thanks again, Anna!

I just had to say my red cloak is blooming for the first time this year. I am so happy. I got cuttings a couple of years ago that I rooted. So it was like watching a baby grow up. :o)
