Stan: Dracena is one of the plants that is sensitive to fluoride. Some of the brown on your leaves may be related to it. I've read at some sites that one should let the water sit out overnight to allow some of the chemicals to dissipate. Other sites say that the fluoride content is not reduced via this procedure.

Nevertheless, I do allow the filled watering can to sit for at least 24 hours before watering my dracena.

The leaves of my newer dracenas that have only received the standing water don't exhibit the brown that appeared on plants prior to the standing water routine. May be it's just the fact that they aren't as old.

I also just learned (from the link below) that one should avoid using perlite with dracenas. Good grief, I'm pretty liberal with it! Also avoid superphosphate (the middle number in the fertilizer trio)...didnt' know that either.

Do you have a place for a rain barrel? I collect rain water for my orchids and house plants and they have really benefited from it.

Hi, Thanks for the input. The water I've used is condensate from the air conditioner - 100% of the time, no tap water. The soil has perlite, so maybe that is a problem?
