Primocane blackberries are the plants that fruit on the current years growth. Prime Jim, Prime Jan, Etc. are Primocane blackberry plants. These varieties make a fall crop: August to November, depending on the zone. They do not perform well in our hot humid south.
Floricane, blackberries are the plants that fruit on the prior years growth and are considered summer fruiting varieties: June to mid August, depending on the Zone. When cutting back, only cut and remove the canes that have already fruited, never severely cut back the new canes that grew as these will be the canes that will fruit for the next year.
I agree the best time for transplanting is when they are dormant.
