You are talking about two radically different plants. Eugenia topiaries are shaped plants that normally aren't grown more than 8' tall. Italian Cypress is a slender, tall shrub to small tree that grows to 30' or more.

My suggestion is don't fool with topiaries unless you have lots of time on your hands and don't plant Italian Cypress unless that's the specific look you are trying to achieve.

fawnridge - I realize they are different. I moved and want to replace the already planted topiaries with something requiring less maintenance but it needs to be something tall and slender. I like Italian cypress and can manage their height. However, I want to learn what needs to be done to make them full. The last one I had got super tall but stayed skinny and bendy. Forgive my naive questions - I am a beginning gardener.
