tropical almond tree

Does anyone know if store bought almonds come
from a tropical almond tree. I'd like to try to
grow one. In this part of Florida the tree is very
rare, ( i know of only 3 that are growing in this area),
it is not invasive here at all like it is in South Florida.

The real almond is Prunus dulcis. The Tropical almond is Terminalia cattapa but the seed is edible and similar to an almond.

There is also a Russian Almond shrub (bush) - Prunus Tenella - ornamental & edible (small almond seeds). I've had mine growing here for 3 to 4 years even though it states zone 2 - 7.
