Cotton like Substance on the Soil

I have a Spathiphyllum that has been growing from its mother plant for about a year. In the past 2-3 months a white cotton like substance has been "growing" ?? on the potting soil. I can not see any creatures under a microscope. And, I can't get any good close ups with my camera to post. So, what could it be and what should I do?

Probably a mold or fruit of a fungus and in both cases, the liklihood is there is naught to be concerned over. If a mold, it might help to allow the soil to dry down more than usual between waterings.
