Ficus Elastica Leaves Curling Downwards

Yesterday, I posted this question in the House Plants forum, but I now think the Foliage forum is more appropriate:

I have a rubber plant that is about 20 years old. Over time, I've pruned it so that it is now a rather bushy tree.

For the past couple of years, I've noticed that all the leaves are curled (with the edges pointed downwards). New growth is also curled in this way. The tree grows quickly and has no bugs that I can see. It lives in a moderately shady corner of the living room.

Any ideas? Could it be the water? Not enough sun? Potbound? If potbound, I need to remove it from a plastic pot -- what tool should I use to cut through the pot to safely remove the tree?

Thanks!

Sharon
