Melianthus major...have wanted this plant which has been featured in almost every book or mag arrticle on foliage forever. Finally saw it in eastcoast catalog at reasonable price...ordered two and I'm thrilled as each silvery jagged leaf unfolds. Will be garaged in winter Z8 as I'm not sure quite hardy here.

Eucomis 'Sparkling Burgundy'...delicious dark leaves and unusual bloom which lasts forever in vase. But even without blooms a great plant.

Jasminum 'Fiona sunrise'...delicate chartreuse to golden foliage depending on sunlight.

Centaurea gymnocarpa 'Colchester White" great in our hot humid summers...whiter than white filigree leaves all summer. During Z8 winter turns a grey-green-white but still handsome. Have had in container for several years now...beautiful filler for vase use.

Also Centaurea pulcherrima 'Pulchra Major'...ordered 2 this year and as white and attractive as the above C.gymnocarpa "Colchester White" and so far doing well in Z8 heat but July-Aug will be the test.

Arundo donax variegata and Thalia genicullata 'Red Stem' - both tall dramatic accents.

Eucalyptus neglecta (Omeo Gum) hardy here and a favorite for cutting or letting grow...mine are in containers so will keep to about 8 feet tall.

Vitex agnus-castenii 'Shoal Creek' new this year, about 20 inches tall and has blooms forming...amazing. Plan to let it form small canopy tree.

Eleutheracoccus sieboldiana variegata...small variegated leaves on twiggy limbs... nice in shade which it prefers here in Z8 particularly.

Sambucus nigra filacinata...thread-leaf form of Elderberry

Macleaya cordata ...an old plant but not often offered because it "runs" but I grow in container for those odd shaped grey-blue leaves.

Lonicera nitida "Baggeson's Gold' ...another oldie but goodie

Carex flagellifera "weeping brown/orange sedge" and
Carex comans 'New Zealand Hair Sedge"

Whew! Can you tell I love foliage? I'll stop now...won't even mention Asparagus myriocladus or Equisetum or Black-stemmed Bamboo...everything grown in containers. Lots of fun to mix a small tree, shrub and groundcover in a big pot...ccomplimenting or contrasting foliage. And dozens of annuals/tropicals in among the pots of hardy plants means I wander around at dawn every morning watering but love it! josh

Astelia ''Silver Spear'' has my vote for my favorite new foliage plant....
Huge!It looks like a gigantic silver leaved Spider Plant-It hasn't bloomed yet but it'll have sweetly scented white flowers.

This year I planted Petasites Hybridus under an old Maple tree, removed some of the soil and added organic soil with compost and lot's of water. Seems to be doing well so far. It even has a few new growths. The leaves on this plant are huge. I Can't wait too see how it will look when it reaches the four or five feet tall it's suppose to get. I also purchased Rodgersia Pinnata 'Chocolate Wing'.
Here are a few of the plants that I think have great beautiful foliage:

    Rodgersia Podophyllum
    Petasites Japonicum
    Petasites Hybridus
