 o
what kind of fertilizer for my new Phormium Jester plants?

Hi all,
we recently purchased two Phormium Jester plants (5 gal size). We planted them in a planter box, and I want to treat them right and help them to grow. I've read that Phormium plants do better when fertilized, but I can't find anything that tells me what *kind* of fertilizer to use.

When I go to Home Depot, I'm confronted with many different kinds of fertilizers to choose from - different N-P-K formulations, different formats (granules, spikes, liquids, powders to be dissolved), etc.

Is there a "right" or "best" type of fertilizer for Phormium? In particular, what is the best N-P-K formulation for this plant? And the best format?

Also, once I obtain a suitable fertilizer, how often should I fertilize the plants?

Thanks much for any advice - or any pointers to where I can find this information.

Best regards,
ReluctantArtist

Use Osmocote. It's a time release and I've had great results with it on all my plants and my "Sundowner" Phormium has tripled in size this year.Mix some in at the bottom of the hole and mix some in the soil on top after planting. It's triggered when you water.
