unknown perennial foliage plant

I saw a foliage plant in the neighbour's garden, with an almost heart shaped leaf, and a band of burgundy across the centre. It's not in flower now, and I don't think it does. Does anyone have any idea what it is? (The owner didn't know what it was)

hi John
I think this could be it:

Mine didn't make it through this winter, however.

Is the burgundy in a v shape? Could be Tovara, also called Painter's pallette. It it is this, mine are must now forming stems for their rather small flowers. Here in my hot climate, I grow it in shade to avoid leaf burn. It comes back from roots and seeds so I have to thin them a lot. Sharon
