Red four o'clocks

I have been reading about kinds of four o'clocks and used to have a bunch of the deep reddish, purplish kind. But no one has mentioned about their unbelievable, unique fragrance. They are one of the best flowers of aroma that I have ever experienced (back in '82) and it lasts and lasts and lasts. Why it is like a constant breeze once they are out are in bloom and start giving off their aroma.

If there were a contest it would be close between the orange blossom and the good old four o'clock if those of you that have ever been to Southern Arizona know what I mean. That constant heavenly, sweet smell in the air.

I think I may have those...but, I've never seen them before. I bought a "shade mix" packet last spring on a whim and it listed "four o'clock giants" as one of varieties of seeds. They are QUITE tall already and few of them are starting to bloom. Very pretty. I thought they were "tall impatiens"...do you know where I could find a good ID pix? thanks!

Greetings! Do a search on this website. I think there is a large subject posting on four o'clocks under anuals. Grumpygardener started the post and there are some really nice pictures for you to see. Red ones are shown also. Hope this helps.

I have them mass planted in yard and so does my neighbor.Its perfect.
