Growing Potatoes in Winter

I live in So Cal and the last few winters have successfully grown potatoes from Oct - April. This year we had frost for several days and the leaves froze. Do I just cut them back and hope for the best or is it a lost cause? Some plants are showing a little green growth but some plants are black to the ground. My garden is so small I don't want to waste time & space if they aren't going to recover and do well. Thank you
