Just a footnote about the mizuna. It died a few weeks ago after we had an ice storm. We had a pretty dry winter this year so if anyone lives in zone 7 with lots of snow and ice these results would change.

Thanks for sharing this info. I'm just starting four-season gardening - first cold frames this year! - so I appreciate this kind of information.

I did a little experiment with growing various lettuces, spinach, and beets for greens in my basement under cheap shop lights. I have to say I am very pleased and will expand next year. I have been able to pick 3-4 small salads a week and with the addition of sprouts have a nice little salad...now the greens are even larger so the salads are larger. I wrote a couple times about it on my blog if you are interested. I also plan on putting these greens outside in early spring under hoops, I will plant pot and all and hope they go to seed for the fall crop. Hopefully they go to seed when the next direct sown crop under the hoops are at edible stage. Kim
