Raised Bed Depth?

I'm putting in some raised beds and I have a really bad crab grass problem and I've rototilled and sprayed grass killer but I'm afraid of the grass growing up and choking my veggies. So I plan on putting grass stop fabric down, but I know if the grass can't get through neither will the roots for my plants get through. So my question is how deep should my beds be? More than 12 inches deep? I'm just trying to grow tomatoes, melons, bush beans, squash, carrots, beets, nothing with too deep of roots I don't think. Thanks for any thoughts or advice!
