Four Season Vegetable Gardening

Do you have to cut the season short to make it work?

I love the idea of four season gardening, but I'm so short on space that I'm not sure how to make it work for me. It seems like I'd have to rip out my tomato plants prematurely in order to give the fall crops enough time to establish themselves before the frost starts. Maybe I should just try to freeze or can instead?

You can under plant. I'll have my winter greens in while the tomatoes and cucumbers are still producing. Strip the bottom leaves as needed. You can do the same thing in the spring. I planted my tomatoes into the winter crop of spinach. It's time for the toms to go in but not yet hot enough as long as I don't lose track of the sun and temps to cause the spinach to bolt.

Thank you, that's helpful! I tried underplanting during the summer, but it didn't seem like the carrots got any sun-- they didn't do anything. I will try stripping off some of the bottom leaves!
