| We've had great success planting green beans in the spring, and have replanted to get a second harvest. We're thinking of planting a "third" crop. How do you think green beans will do if planted in September? We're in coastal southern california. Are we just "california dreaming"? |

| So this is 2011 and I'm think the same thing. I just planted some Big Mama Lima. Did you try and if you did what happened? |

| I didn't have much luck with a fall planting of green bush beans. I tried it twice, different years. The weather was the proper cool temps, but the problem seemed to be the waning sunlight hours. The planting area had plenty of sunshine, but the shortening days seemed to leave them struggling. The beans sprouted ok, but didn't really take off. The spring planting had done well, so I hoped the fall planting would too. Maybe you'll have better luck than me. WildRose Riverside County |

In Fresno....the weather is usually warm until mid-October...I wanted to ask the same question....Is it too late to plant green beans? We always plant Fave beans about now...They are ready in Feb., March....just in time before the summer garden goes in. The cold (sometimes frost in the morning) doesn't affect the Fave. Would it affect the green beans? Lina |

So fava beans grow over the winter? I've always been interested in favas, but haven't ever grown them. Maybe they'll do better then my green beans. I tried twice with green beans in the fall, but they didn't grow well, and barely produced anything. My area has some frost between Thanksgiving and Valentines Day. You gave me a good idea about favas! Rose in Riverside County, CA |

| I planted royal burgundy bush beans earlier this month. Not sure if they are gonna make it but we'll see. |

| we did a fall planting for peas; and that worked great, even in MN this year. We could have planted them a little sooner, as we got a few pickings before it froze last night. |
