Four Season Vegetable Gardening

can I start winter squash now? early August? The beds are raised and the soil is warm! but, I do have a short season. and I LOVE winter squash!

Are there enough frost free, warm days to carry through until the squash is mature? Without knowing that we won't know if you have enough time.

Just in case you are thinking "winter squash" grow in the winter, they do not *wink*. They KEEP over the winter. Many winter squash (especially heirloom varieties) have long growing times. So most folks plant them with their Spring gardens and harvest in the Fall. Your seed packet should tell you the days until harvest. Mine are ALWAYS longer than what the packages says :D LOL

I will need to start next year spring. I knew that they couldn't be grown over the winter **grin**
I have seeds that were given to me and so I wasnt sure if I could get them before the season ends. This summer has been crazy !!
